Acrylic body monoprint on canvas $1000.00

This piece is part of a series, which includes Blue Jelly Fish, Body Landscape, Dunes, and Reclining Nude. All were created using a technique I call body monoprinting. It mimics monoprint in that paint is applied to one surface and then pressed onto another surface. In traditional monoprints, the pigment is applied to a glass or acrylic plate. The plate is then pressed onto paper or oilcloth and removed. It transfers a print of the original work done on the plate to paper or oilcloth, thereby creating the final art piece. In what I call body monoprinting, the "plate" I apply paint to is my body. I create variations in pigment, apply them to myself as the plate with specific patterns of value and hue in mind. Then I press the design onto canvas. Usually I do several different applications to create a specific work. I often combine traditional under painting technique with a body monoprint. I have been trying to get away from the traditional techniques of art I was taught in school. My first step away from classic formulas was to begin painting with acrylics instead of oils. I found that I was still tapping into traditional ways of mixing color, creating chiaroscuro, under painting, etc. So I moved further afield with the body monoprints. My next out-of-the-box process was to step as far away from creating the obvious body silhouette as possible. That's when the landscapes and animals began to appear. Body monoprinting is not my only style, but it has certainly been the most freeing.
