Economy of Movement

The neurologist calls Tanya's right foot
a "dropped foot" as though she left it behind
like her purse wedged under the passenger seat
of our car, a two-door which might

look too small for her walker or wheelchair,
but each folds to fit in the trunk
if Tanya pulls from inside, I push from outside
and we slide the wheels, bars, cushions

over the car's flat rear seat, one more
of the devices in our well-equipped life
which has grown twice as useful
because of its ability to collapse.
