Spare Beauty

for the down and out
  the out
casts and doubt
ful girl with a heart-shaped
face drinking
  lemonade and sweet-tea
sugared to the nth degree

Lila's tires need rotating
     her sheets need changing
     her life needs an overhaul.
Spare some change, clink the ice cubes
  kissing in the glass.
Spare some change? jingles
a man in a shadowcast overcoat
umbrellaed against a day partly cloudy
   with a good chance
of rainshowers

   bring me flowers
Lila tells the border collie
that waters her lawn every day.
Spare some beauty? Lila asks the gingerbread boy
  the cross-branched lattice work
of icing across his nutmeg chest
His mute sweetness
     the whole world's reply
